| What is Precious Metal Clay (PMC)? |
In the early 1990's, Mitsubishi Motors Corporation developed and patented PMC. Their aim was to create a material for use in jewellery making using their mined and recycled minerals. The clay consists of precious metal particles held together with non-toxic organic binders and water. The binders and water holding microscopic particles of gold and silver give the product a clay-like working consistency. When fired the binder burns away, leaving a fine silver or gold piece of jewellery. Like working with modelling clay, PMC can be rolled, textured and molded into shape to make your own fine silver jewellery pieces. PMC is available in lump clay, paste, syringe or sheet form, and in three types: PMC standard, PMC Plus and PMC3.
